What are rise snaps I hear you asking, well they are all those extra snaps on the front of the nappy that can make it look confusing but trust me once you understand their purpose you won’t be confused anymore.
What role do they play?
Their role is to help adjust the size of the nappy to give a good fit by essentially folding down the nappy which creates smaller leg holes and helps to prevent those annoying leaks.
The idea is that the nappy starts off on the smallest rise and as your baby grows so does the nappy.
How to tell you need to adjust the rise?
There isn’t really a hard and fast rule about this, it’s more of a trouble shoot problem. The biggest give away is that oh so lovely plumbers crack, now if you see that you will definitely want to go up a rise setting so you can avoid that whole volcano eruption experience and trust me that is something you will want to avoid!
Don't be alarmed if your little one has all the rise snaps undone before they are crawling, as they start to crawl and walk you may find you are having to drop back down a rise snap or even 2.
If you have extra fabric around the bum you may need to go down a snap rise setting.
There will be times that your little one is between rise settings, this can be frustrating especially if you have just nailed your fit but as long as the nappy isn’t leaking or leaving horrible red marks it should be fine.
While rise snaps are super helpful they do have a down side, that is that the middle rise snap can be damaged when bub is commando crawling so its best to pop some pants on bub to prevent that.
