What is that one aspect of a cloth nappy that is super super important but is never really shown off?
Thats right it’s the insert! Without that one little aspect you wouldn’t have that super absorbent cloth nappy that you love!
Let’s just dive right in.
Inserts can come in many many shapes, sizes and fabrics. It gets confusing and overwhelming FAST!
My personal favourite fabric for inserts is Bamboo, this is a 70% bamboo 30% cotton composure.
Why is it my favourite you ask?
Well it’s fairly easy to acquire, which when you are a maker that’s a huge plus!
It’s pretty hardy and can withstand strong ammonia wees without breaking down easily, unlike hemp.
It is also incredibly absorbent and holds the liquid so there is a very very minimal chance of compression leaks which are common with microfibre.
The bamboo featured in all FTRG nappies is incredibily thin but still ultra absorbent so, it really is the perfect option to complete any trim fitting nappy while maintaining that incredible absorbency!
Our Rosarium and OSFM both come with the same inserts, perfect for those who have a mixed of the 2
They come with a shaped snap in insert that has 2 layer of that incredible bamboo, topped with a suede cloth stay dry layer cause lets face it no baby wants to feel wet! And they feature hidden snaps.
Pair that with the super long 2 layer snake insert that can be folded to where your little one needs the absorbency, you should have a nice and snuggly dry little one to cuddle.
Our newborn nappies are a little different and come with 3 inserts, this is to help cater to the needs of a fresh newborn and an older newborn.
They come with a snap in inserts thats 2 layers of that incredible bamboo topped with suede cloth to keep bubs feeling snuggly dry and those sneaky hidden snaps. You then have the option of adding in either the small 2 layer booster and or the baby snake inserts.
Now with these 3 inserts just imagine the combinations you’d be able to come up with! I imagine for a fresh newbie just needing the snap in inserts, as they start to wet a little more adding in the smaller booster, when they outwet that one swap the booster for the baby snake and when/if they outwet that one just add back in the booster so you’ve got all the inserts! Oh and don’t forget you can fold the baby snake and booster to increase absorbency where your little one needs it.
WOW! Mind blown right?
Now I can get all technical and talk about the GSM (grams per square metre) but that’s not really an effective way of telling you anything especially because I don’t use a square metre per nappy, and because it is a way of measuring the weight of the fabric as some weights have different uses in the fabric/sewing world (that’s a completely different rabbit hole).
If you are someone who adds up the GSM layers to figure out if the nappy will suit you I’ll break it down for you.
Rosarium and OSFM inserts with the snap in and snake folded in 3s (standard) is a whooping 4000GSM!
Our newborn inserts can be anywhere from 1000GSM right up to 4000GSM as well!
